Black metal is growled or screamed where kawaii metal is sung cleanly, and faster: 160 to 280 bpm against 140 to 200. Songs run longer in black metal: usually 4 to 9 minutes, against 3 to 4½ minutes in kawaii metal. To hear the difference, play Babymetal next to Bathory. Both grew out of heavy metal, black metal first and kawaii metal 28 years after.
