Australian metalcore
In short
A surf town and a set of suburban halls, ten thousand miles from any label that mattered, on the first generation who did not need one.
The scene
Every scene above this one needed a room, a shop or a studio to hold it together. This one had the internet, which is why it could happen in a Byron Bay surf town with no industry within a day's flight. Parkway Drive built an international audience from home by touring relentlessly and putting everything online, and a decade of Australian bands followed the same route. What they sent back was metalcore played harder and cleaner than the American version, and by the end of it the traffic was running the other way.
