Stockholm death metal
In short
The other first wave of death metal, recorded in one basement studio through one distortion pedal.
The scene
Florida and Stockholm arrived at death metal at the same time and did not sound remotely alike, which is the clearest case on this map for a scene being a room rather than a genre. Tomas Skogsberg's Sunlight Studio produced a guitar tone — a Boss HM-2 with every knob turned fully up, a buzzsaw rather than a growl — that is so specific it is still described by the studio's name thirty years later. Entombed, Dismember and most of the city recorded there, and the sound was a scene's shared property in a way a riff never is.
